Exciting new designs
Since the world is watching, cities want to create an exciting environment for "their" Olympic Games. The 2008 games will use a total of 37 facilities. Twelve of them are being built especially for the Olympics.

Central among the new venues is Beijing's National Stadium. The staduim uses a creative design that makes it look like a bird's nest. The "bird's nest" can seat 91,000 people. At the Olympics, it will be the site of track-and-field will also be uesd for the opening and closing ceremonies of the games.

The venue that will house the swimming and diving events is another important facility. Located near the National Stadium, it looks like a giant cube of water. The building walls are covered with cushions filled with air. The building uses LED lights to make the walls look like water. The center will host most of the water sports during the Olympics.
