HALLOWS= 哈利波特的最后系列《The Deathly Hallows》（死亡圣器）对于现代人理解起来十分高深莫测，尤其你说美式英语的话更难get其中的古老渊源。

Hallow在现代英语中作为动词，是“把……视为神圣”的意思。但在这个神奇的标题里，这个单词是作为名词，听上去好像很震惊额。这是因为在这里，这个单词的意思用的是古意（这个古意只出现在英国英国凯尔特传奇中）。在凯尔特传奇中，一些贵重、有威力的物品因它们的功能和象征被称为“hallow”。

君王加冕礼仍然调用四件仪式必备物品：the sceptre（权杖）, sword（剑）, ampulla of oil（, 壶腹油）and crown（王冠）。这些都可以被称为“hallows（圣器）”。

在哈利波特中的“死亡圣器”包括：老魔杖(the Elder Wand)，复活石(the Resurrection Stone)，隐形斗篷(the Cloak of Invisibility)，典故出自《诗翁彼豆故事集》（THE TALES OF BEEDLE THE BARD）

补充：古英语中，hallow（源自日耳曼语）这个词意为“圣人”（saint，源于拉丁语），发展到今天就是形容词holy（神圣的）。All Hallows' Day（万圣节）是天主教的庆典，字面上理解就是All Saints' Day（万圣节），庆典的前一天是死亡的庆典，所以称为All Hallows' Even（万圣夜），也就是今天的All Hallows' Eve，再发展至今就有了Halloween这个词。这一天，是盎格鲁-撒克逊国家所有亡灵重返地面的日子。
