As Christmas 1992 approached, John and Libby's sadness increased. The thought of the holiday season without their children was unbearable. After praying, they felt they should spend Christmas on Grenada, a Caribbean island. For reasons they still don't understand, they brought along the toys that Libby had bought.

Once on the island, an unexpected idea came to John and Libby. They decided to visit a local orphanage and pass out the toys as Christmas gifts. Many of the orphans there were handicapped or had been abused. Though the couple wished they could have given the toys to their own children, they were moved by the orphans's joy.

The following year, the couple traveled to Ghana in West Africa. There they distributed toys and clothes to children's homes. Just like on Grenada, they were deeply touched by the children's suffering. The Moritzes desired to help heal those children's pain - and the pain of other children like them. On that trip, they believed God was giving them a clear purpose for the future. As parents without children, they would help rescue and protect children without parent.
