Mother’s Christmas present

Lucy was a nine-year-old girl. Her mother was seriously ill, and because of the illness, she lost all of her hair.

One day, Lucy went to buy some medicine for her mother. On the way to the hospital, she saw a beautiful wig (假发) in a shop window. She thought that her mother would look beautiful in the wig, so she wanted to buy it for her mother as a Christmas present. However, the wig cost 15 dollars and Lucy couldn’t afford it. Finally, Lucy begged the shopkeeper to keep it for her until Christmas Eve and the shopkeeper promised.

The next few days, Lucy did all kinds of jobs to make money, yet she only had made 3 dollars by Christmas Eve. She went to the shop with the money and told the shopkeeper why she needed the wig. The shopkeeper was deeply moved by the girl. He thought for a while and told Lucy that the wig had been sold out. Lucy was very sad.

The next morning when Lucy woke up, her mother told her that someone had sent her a Christmas present. She opened it and found it was just the wig she had wanted to buy. There was also a note in it. The note said, “This is your Christmas present and it is also your mother’s. Merry Christmas!”
