The two-story house was made of red brick, with exposed wood beams and a shingle roof with curved lines; it evoked a rambling Cotswold cottage, or perhaps a home where a well-to-do Hobbit might have lived. The one Californian touch was a mission-style courtyard framed by the wings of the house. The two-story vaulted-ceiling living room was informal, with a floor of tile and terra-cotta. At one end was a large triangular window leading up to the peak of the ceiling; it had stained glass when Jobs bought it, as if it were a chapel, but he replaced it with clear glass. The other renovation he and Powell made was to expand the kitchen to include a wood-burning pizza oven and room for a long wooden table that would become the family’s primary gathering place. It was supposed to be a four-month renovation, but it took sixteen months because Jobs kept redoing the design. They also bought the small house behind them and razed it to make a backyard, which Powell turned into a beautiful natural garden filled with a profusion of seasonal flowers along with vegetables and herbs.(Chapter 20 A REGULAR GUY: A Family Home)

4。各类教堂表达

Chapel（学校，医院等的）小教堂
公元4世纪法国图尔（Tours）有一位主教名叫圣马丁，他创建了法国最早的几所隐修院，是西方教会隐修制度的倡导人。据传，一个严寒的冬日他在法国亚眠（Amiens）城门边看见一个几乎赤身裸体的乞丐向行人求乞。但圣马丁当时身无分文，遂拔剑将身上的军用披风划成两半，把一半给了乞丐。这一时传为佳话，他死后这披风被法兰克历代国王奉为圣物，藏于圣物柜中。“披风”在后期拉丁语作cappella，因此收藏该圣物的“圣所”或者“圣堂”人们也以cappella称之。该拉丁词借入法语时作chapele，13世纪进入英语，作chapel，转指“小教堂”或“附属教堂”。 英国剑桥大学国王学院教堂（king’s college chapel）算是chapel中较有名气的，其合唱团的演出自1928年起就在平安夜由BBC向世界各地播出。

Cathedral 大教堂
但凡叫cathedral的教堂都规模宏大，cathedral一词是由拉丁词语cathedra衍生而来，意思是座位，cathedral特指设有主教座位的教堂，也是教区（基督教中划分的行政区域）的中心，所以这些教堂多为宏伟的大型建筑。著名的巴黎圣母院、科隆大教堂、米兰大教堂、伦敦圣保罗教堂都是cathedral。

 Abbey 属修道院的教堂
这个词多半是由于英国西敏寺（Westminster abbey，又称为西敏斯教堂）而为人所知，abbey来自古叙利亚语abba，“父亲”的意思，其实是修道院，神职人员学习培训的地方，修道院的通称英文其实是monastery，修道院在abbot（女性称abbess）领导下就称为abbey，在prior领导下就称为priory，在级别上abbey更高些。修道院到abbey的级别必须经教皇同意，但是abbey的头abbot则由修行的神职人员自己选，没有得到教皇授权的修道院就是priory。在现代英语里，monastery、abbey、priory都是男修道院，convent则特指女修道院。西敏寺最早就是个修道院。
小编心水的英剧《神探夏洛克》的片头就出现了西敏寺，大家睁大眼睛在图片里找。
第二季中的车窗倒影里，夏洛克在出租车上听完莫里亚蒂讲故事后，车窗上也出现了这一伦敦标志性建筑的投影。
