Chinese experts say the country's currency has been rising steadily since 2005, when China initiated reform of the exchange rate regime. Official data shows that China's yuan has appreciated more than 30 percent against the dollar since 2005.

Zhong Wei, Director of Finance Research Center, Beijing Normal University said "Since the reform on exchange rate regime, the yuan has been continuously on the rise. It has steadily appreciated by more than 30 percent. Few other currencies are like this."

China's overhaul of the exchange rate regime began in 2005. That was when the People's Bank of China announced the reform of the RMB exchange rate regime and abandoning a decade-old peg to the U.S. dollar, by allowing its currency to fluctuate against a basket of currencies.

In June 2010, the PBOC announced it would further reform the yuan exchange rate to improve its flexibility. At the same time, it ruled out a one-off revaluation of the currency.
