A clever man does not necessarily have wisdom. However, a man with wisdom must be clever to a certain extent.

Cleverness and wisdom seem to be twin brothers in appearance. But their innate characters are different in essence.

When we say a man is clever there's no implication that this very person is also wise. That's because sometimes clever people may be victims of their own cleverness. The wise would not suffer from this for the reason that even though they are not clever they know themselves well and have the very norms to distinct right from wrong.

The clever will receive our praises for their quick response and strategy-oriented way of running things, while the wise will have our general acceptance for their personality accomplishment, the characteristics of which are constant endeavors and practices throughout one's life.

If cleverness can be compared as a flash of fireworks which has lighten up the bright sky of life, then wisdom is more like the ocean, vast and deep, that have reflected the light of our humanity's thousands of year's civilization.

Of the two, cleverness and wisdom, I prefer the latter one.

People with intelligence do not necessarily represent wisdom; while people with wisdom , to a certain extent , stand for intelligence.

Be that as it may that they are seemingly born brothers , intelligence and wisdom differ fundamentally in both nature and content .

When a person is considered intelligent, it does not mean that he is praised for his wisdom----for the fact that “Intelligent counter- is intelligently harmed” and intelligent people tend to, every now and then, outsmart themselves. The opposite is true of people with wisdom; even if they are far from being intelligent, they embrace great wisdom in self-knowledge as well as principles to distinguish right from wrong.

Intelligence is an appreciation employed to describe strategy-oriented people who react quickly and smartly when anything comes up. Wisdom, however, is a universal acknowledgement of people who, throughout their life, consistently strive to scale new heights and enhance their inner self-accomplishment.

Should intelligence be compared as a spark of fireworks which shines up the bright sky of life; then wisdom is just like the broad and profound sea which reflects the light of human society’s civilization in several millennia.

Intelligence and wisdom----I prefer the latter.

A clever man is not always wise, while a wise man must be clever.

Cleverness and wisedom appear as twinborn brothers, while their nature and content are fundamentally different.

When we say one is clever, we do not mean he is wise, because a clever man sometimes will fool himself, who is said "clever made fool". However, a wise man will never fool himself because even if he is not clever, he knows himself and discriminates truth and falseness well.

Clever is used to praise someone who is alert and tactical, while wise means a universal approvement of one who spares no effort to improve his personality and dignity all his lifetime.

If cleverness is a flash of spark lightening our lives, wisedom will be an extensive ocean that refracts the eternity of human society and culture.

I prefer the latter between cleverness and wisdom.

评语:译文处理比较灵活,能够以简单的词汇表述中文原文的意思,可见译者能够较好地用英文思维,实现从译出语到译入语的良好转换,但译者在用词选择方面略显随意,在捕捉原文风格和语气方面略差。

Smart people do not necessarily represent the wisdom, yet, people with wisdom, to some degree, are smart.

Intelligence and wisdom are as same as twins. But,in essence ,there is a world of difference between them.

When saying someone is smart, we are not meaning to applaud his wisdom at the same time, for, sometimes, smart people tend to fall victim to their own intelligence. They are just too clever to be wise. However, the wise make great difference on this point. Not smart enough as they may be, people with wisdom always hold strong sense of self-knowledge and sound discretion.

“Smart” is the honor we attribute to people with quick response and brilliant tactics in all situation. But, if we call somebody wise, we are showing our universal approval to his characteristic integrity, because he has been keeping forging ahead and refining himself throughout his life.

If intelligence can be compared to a sparkle lighting up our lives, then, wisdom should be a broad and profound sea, through which we could see the thousands years of colourful civilization of human society.

I prefer wisdom to intelligence!

评语:本文译者对原文的诠释过多,所以译文在语言方面可以更为简洁,目前的译文略显罗嗦,个别句子有“画蛇添足”之嫌,语言不够自然,另有部分用词不够恰当,有中式英语的痕迹。

Clever people may not process wisdom, while wise people are clever to some extent.

It seems as if cleverness and wisdom are twin brothers, yet they are basically different when it comes to essence.

When we describe someone as “clever”, it doesn’t mean that we also praise him as “wise”. For sometimes clever man can be overreached by his cleverness, or, too clever to be wise. Wise people won’t do that. Even if he’s not clever, he has strong sense of self-knowledge and code of distinguishing right from wrong.

Cleverness is a praise and honor for those who are quick-witted and tactful, while wisdom is a universal commendation on personality and self-cultivation of those who keep forging ahead and holding discipline in a lifetime.

If cleverness is a shower of spark that shines upon the bright sky of life, then wisdom is the ocean that is extensive and profound, which mirrors the outstanding light of human civilization.

Between cleverness and wisdom, I prefer the latter.

评语:译文整体比较流畅,对原文的风格把握较好,但个别地方受中文束缚较多,英文思维不够,所以译文不够自然,,有些句子处理得太长,节奏感不好。

Intelligence is not wisdom, but wisdom encompasses intelligence.

It seems intelligence and wisdom are twin brothers, but the essence and core of each are far apart from the other.

When we say someone is intelligent, we are not praising him/her as a wise one. Sometimes, intelligent people get themselves outsmarted, just too intelligent to be wise. Contrarily, with strong sense of self-knowledge and of distinguishing right from wrong, wise ones never have the embarrassment of being too smart, even if they are not intelligent at all.

Intelligent is the praise to someone who can play quick-wittedly and tactically. Wisdom is the consensus to the life-long pursuit of refining one’s personality.

Intelligent is the sparkle lighting someone’s the life. Wisdom is the sea, broad and profound, reflecting the eternal civilization of human beings.

To be intelligent or to be wise? I’d say the later.

评语:译文整体比较通顺,尤其最后一句改用问答形式,处理得比较灵活,但译文中一些地方用词不够准确,有个别语病,如someones the life
