Alibaba, expected to go public in New York in one of the biggest listings of the year, has been working to break into the financial sector. An outspoken critic of Chinese banks for not providing good customer service, Mr Ma has vowed to inject more competition into the sector and shakeup the status quo.
After making some inroads with a small lending company in recentyears, Alibaba stepped up its challenge to banks last year by launching a fund investment platform that effectively replicated bank accounts but offered much higher interest rates.
Growth ofAlibaba’s fund, known as Yu’e Bao, has been substantial. It has attracted more than Rmb 500bn ($80bn) of quasi-deposits from customers in less than a year.
But banks have started to push back against Alibaba. Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, the country’s biggest lender, last week restricted business with Alibaba’s online payment arm to just one branch.

近年来阿里巴巴通过开展小型借贷公司的业务成功迈进了金融界的大门。2013年阿里巴巴加快了挑战银行的步伐，发布了一款基金投资平台的应用程序，其本质上等同于银行的存款业务只是利率要高些。
广为人知的余额宝对阿里巴巴储备的增加功不可没。余额宝吸引了大量用户，人们纷纷把钱转存到余额宝里，在不到一年的时间里，其资金总数已经超过5000亿人民币（约合800亿美元）。
然而好景不长，各大银行已经开始还击阿里巴巴。中国最大的银行-中国工商银行上周宣布将限制支付宝快捷支付限额。
