10. Here we come to the last question. To the students who like to study aboard or who like to start a student career, would you please give them some advices?

First of all, be sure what type of curriculum they offer. Be sure that is certified. You are going to get a diploma that worth something. Our diploma is from British Cambridge government. And quite a lot diplomas are issued by a school are not worth the paper that printed on. So ours is from the British government.

Second thing is also to look at the curriculum and what kind of courses they provide and are things could be your needs. Take look at staffing. Many international schools do not have 100% certified teachers. They have 60 to 80 percent. By BEC government law, we have to have 100% certified teachers. So all our teachers are certified, British Cambridge teachers who teach back in British Cambridge, which gives us a really advantage.

The other thing is to really get involved in school.  It doesn’t matter what school you get. You will get involved, be part of that school. Do something to contribute to your school as well as to help yourself. Whether it’s Harvard, Yale, Princeton, UBC, they are looking for students now who give something back. They are not looking for students who are just taking from the university, who working to give universities as well.

So part of our program is we have students actually to have portfolio and they actually have to present that portfolio as part of their credit for graduation. So that sort of indicate shows us they are prepared to enter into field of work, field of study.

The other thing I would say to the students when they are looking at the universities and trying to decide. First of all, decide on what you would like to do; what’s the type of thing you would like to do in the future. Try to imagine yourself 20 years or 30 years from now and then come backwards. And then what’s my first step to get there? So look at your dream, then come back. In order to do that, Chinese students, I will say, you have two choices to make. Do I want to be in a big city where there are a lot of Chinese? Should I go to Vancouver or Richmond?Vancouver, 1/3 Chinese. Or do I want to go to a smaller city where there are not quite so many. Both have advantages. It depends on the person. Some say I would like to go to a smaller city where are Chinese. I can get Chinese food; I can still be part of that culture. At the same time, I can get other friends and move outside that circle. I can get really a Canadian experience.

And the other one, I suggest is the weather, some like where do you want to live. Edmontonis very cold, in August, it’s minus 40 degrees at the time. But I’ll tell you, I’ve been warmer in Edmonton, minus 40, than I have been in Shanghai, minus 2 simply because the house is warmer; we built house for that weather.  So you need to take look at where you want to live, the type of lifestyle and the job you want in the future and then plan.

Thank you very much. That’s so much for today.
