首先来看一下媒体的报道：

上面句子中的“crash out of”就是“比赛出局”的意思。比如说：

Klinsmann（克林斯曼）has failed to impress in his first season at the German champion, his side crashing out of the German Cup and lying fourth in the Bundesliga（德甲联赛）, three points off the top with eight matches left.

其实在体育赛事中，表达“淘汰”，“出局”的英语还有很多。

比如说最简单的就是“out”，便是一个介词搞定一切问题。如：

World Cup holders Italy are out of the tournament after losing 3-2 to Slovakia today and finishing bottom of Group F.

另外还有我们平时经常会用的词“eliminate”，同样可以表达“淘汰出局”。比如说：

Their team was eliminated in the first round. （他们队在第一轮就被淘汰了。）
