《Born to Die/难逃一死》是Lana Del Rey的首张主流厂牌专辑，也是她的第二张录音室专辑。该专辑于2012年1月17日在iTunes上放出，在当月31日全球正式发行，发行商为Interscope Records和Stranger Records。Lana于2011年6月签约Stranger Records，并发行了她的首支单曲《Video Games》，在网络上引起广泛注意。之后，她开始接受媒体采访，并在各种活动现场演唱此歌。专辑二单《Born to Die》在2011年12月30日放出，此曲在当时备受乐评人喜爱，独特的演唱技巧和出挑的声线获得称赞，但贯穿整张专辑过强的戏剧性也受到些许批评。“当时人们不把我当做严肃认真的音乐人，所以我就压低声调，我想那样的话我或许就能脱颖而出。”Del Rey这样解释自己低沉的音线。
