The Supreme Court is refusing to intervene in the controversy surrounding the National Security Agency. The justices on Monday rejected a call from a privacy group to stop NSA from collecting the telephone records of millions of Verizon customers in the U.S.
 
Princeton University officials have decided to give students a meningitis vaccine that hasn't been approved in the U.S. to stop the spread of the disease. The Food and Drug Administration approved the import of Bexsero last week. The vaccine is approved in Europe and Australia.
 
Toronto city council passes a motion to strip mayor Rob Ford of most of his remaining power. Ford will now be mayor in name only. Ford refused to step down after admitting to smoking crack cocaine and his repeated outbursts in recent weeks.
 
NASA's newest robotic explorer, Maven, is on its way to Mars. The Maven spacecraft blasted off from Cape Canaveral on Monday and will take ten months to reach Mars.
