Reports by Glenn Greenwald and Laura Poitras indicate Edward Snowden requested that his identity be published. Snowden is a former technical assistant for the CIA and is currently employed by a defense contractor.
 
A fifth victim of the shooting in Santa Monica, California earlier this week died today. Investigators are trying to determine why the gunman planned the shooting spree, which they say may have started as an act of domestic violence.
 
More than 30,000 people have been evacuated from parts of Eastern Germany, where a flooded river burst through a dam. The flood crest is expected to hit Northern Germany in the next couple of days.
