China, Japan to hold 2nd economic dialogue

China and Japan will hold their second high-level economic dialogue on Sunday in Tokyo.

A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman says Vice Premier Wang Qishan and Japanese Foreign Minister Hirofumi Nakasone will co-chair the dialogue.

China drafts energy stimulus plan

A preliminary draft for China's energy stimulus plan has been done, but the contents and the time of the bill's launch have not been revealed.

A senior energy official told a press conference in Beijing the National Energy Administration has been soliciting opinions over the past two months.

He said the plan needs more work before it is reported to the government.

NKorean missile arrives at launch site

South Korean media reports say that North Korea has moved an advanced long-range missile to a coastal launch site near the border with China.

Reports say the missile may be launched as early as in mid-June, and that it has the ability of reaching US territories.

Officials: mass abduction by Taliban in Pakistan

Pakistani officials say Taliban militants have taken possibly hundreds of people hostage in northwestern Pakistan.

Militants ambushed a convoy of vehicles carrying at least 400 students, staff and relatives from a boys' school Monday.

Police have been negotiating for the captives' release following the brazen abduction.

South Africa gold mine fire kills 36: company

Illegal gold mining in South Africa has left 36 people dead in an underground fire.

Their bodies were retrieved at a shaft in central Free State province during the past weekend.

According to Harmony Gold Mining Co., one of the top gold producers in the world, the dead miners apparently suffocated in an underground fire at a disused gold mine.

Boyle rushed to clinic after surprise defeat

Scottish singing sensation Susan Boyle was rushed to a London clinic with mental health problems after coming a shock second on a talent show.

The news came hours after she suffered a surprise defeat late Saturday in the "Britain's Got Talent" show.

The show's producers said the singing star was "exhausted and emotionally drained" following the final.
