Ah, there he is... from the corner of his eye, Al saw the reporter the moment the latter walked into the studio. While staying focus on the camera and photographer, he was also aware that the reporter was standing at the back of the room, anxiously watching him, most probably waiting for an opportune moment. When Al was in the elevator, he sensed that the reporter might want to talk to him, most likely about retrieving the memory card, so he threw out the bait. Sure enough, the fish had taken the bait.
