World automakers rush to Shanghai Auto Show

World automakers are increasing their presence, in the world's only major growing, car market.

That's because the US market is in a slump.

They've launched over a dozen new models at the Shanghai Auto Show, in China.

Sales of major automakers, have been rising in China, thanks to tax cuts and rebates.

US boycotts anti-racism conference

The United Nations' top human rights official, regrets the US decision, to boycott the UN's, anti-racism conference in Geneva.

UN Human Rights High Commissioner, Navi Pillay, says she is shocked at Washington's decision.

At least seven other countries have also boycotted the conference.

They fear the meeting could become an anti-Semitic forum.

They say this could lead, to limiting free speech.

UN chief says economic crisis threatens more racism

At the conference itself, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, says the global economic crisis could lead to more racism.

He says it may appear in more subtle forms, through the hatred of a particular people or class.

Ban also says he regrets the US and other Western nations boycotted the conference.

Iran waits for "practical changes" from U.S., says president

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says his country is waiting for "practical " U.S. policy changes so that relations between the two countries could be improved.

He's told reporters in Geneva U.S. policy changes are necessary, but they should be "practical changes."

Ahmadinejad also defended Iran's right to develop nuclear energy, but said his country was ready for dialog on the nuclear issue.

Ahmadinejad is in Geneva for the Durban Review Conference, a follow-up meeting to the World Conference against Racism, held in 2001 in Durban, South Africa.

Russia threatens to cancel military talks with NATO

Russia's envoy to NATO says the NATO-Russia meeting between military officers scheduled for next month may be canceled if the alliance continued to hold drills in Georgia.

Meanwhile, He adds the NATO-Russia Council meeting at level of ambassadors slated for next week will go on as planned.

India launches spy satellite

India puts a spy satellite in space.

New Delhi says it hopes to improve surveillance capabilities, following the Mumbai attacks.

One Indian scientist says the satellite can pick up any movement on earth.
