Many individuals strongly oppose this attitude though, they think if tourists do not follow the local way of life they may make serious mistakes, which in turn may cause clashes between the guests and the hosts. For example, Asian tourists may make their waiters or waitresses very upset if they do not follow the age-old custom of tipping after they have meals in North American restaurants. As a matter of fact, if tourists follow the customs of the local people, they get the really experience and understand different cultures, which is probably the primary intended goal of most overseas trips. My own view is, over all, travelers should honor and cherish the cultural identity of their destinations while being expected to hold on to their own, which will make both the hosts and the guests feel respected and valued.
但是，很多人强烈反对这种看法。他们认为，假如游客不遵守当地的生活方式，也许会犯下严重错误，从而可能导致主客之间的冲突。譬如，假如亚洲游客在北美餐馆就餐后，没有遵守付小费的古老习俗，就可能让服务员非常不满。事实上，如果游客遵守当地人的风俗，就能真正体验和理解当地的文化与生活方式，这可能是大多数海外旅游主要的预期目标。 我个人认为，游客应该被允许坚持自身的文化特性，但他们也应尊重和爱护目的地的文化底蕴，这会让主客双方都感受到尊重和重视。
