As the economic gloom continues to hit the UK, brides are getting nostalgic for the romance of another era. Inspiration is coming from vintage frocks and the popular TV series Downton Abbey.

Romance is in the air at the UK Wedding Show. Soft twirls of organza and lace creations are the gowns set to entice and entrance for 2013.

The Duchess of Cambridge’s royal wedding gown continues to inspire bridal designers. The Alexander McQueen dress designed by Sam Burton re-introduced lace stitching and English craftsmanship to the wedding industry.

Bryony Toogood, Fashion Editor, said, "Kate Middleton’s dress obviously was absolutely stunning and had a massive, massive effect on what’s gone on since then."

Period dramas such as the British television show Downton Abbey, and the film The Great Gatsby have inspired a flurry of 1920s frocks.

Lace and vintage looks are also hot on the catwalk. And a vintage photography package can also add a classic twist to the big day. Cost is one of the big influences behind the nostalgic, handmade themes for weddings.

Katrina Baker said, "Basically we want to make it as cheap as possible, we’re homemaking a lot of the decorations, and my sister is an artist, and I draw so we’re planning to make a lot of the stuff to take the price down."

With over 110 companies in attendance, this show attracts thousands of visitors each year.
