Officials in the Midwest are blaming five deaths on this week's record-breaking heat wave. The temperature reached 103 degrees in Chicago. Several hundred thousand in the mid-Atlantic still don't have power following the weekend storm.

A man is booked on murder and kidnapping charges, in connection with the disappearance of University of Louisiana student Mickey Shunick. The suspect, Brandon Scott Lavergne, is a registered sex offender. Shunick vanished in May.

President Obama campaigns in the key swing state of Ohio on Friday, while back in Washington the labor department releases the monthly unemployment report.

And Republican Party officials say presidential candidate Mitt Romney and the Republican National Committee raised more than 100 million dollars in June.
