It is conferences like this that compel governments and peoples everywhere to listen, look, and face the world's most pressing problems. Wasn't it after all -- after the women's conference in Nairobi ten years ago that the world focused for the first time on the crisis of domestic violence? Earlier today, I participated in a World Health Organization forum. In that forum, we talked about ways that government officials, NGOs, and individual citizens are working to address the health problems of women and girls. Tomorrow, I will attend a gathering of the United Nations Development Fund for Women. There, the discussion will focus on local -- and highly successful programs that give hard-working women access to credit so they can improve their own lives and the lives of their families.
这样的大会迫使各国政府与各地民众倾听、注意并面对世界最紧要的问题。十年前在内罗毕的妇女大会之后，整个世界不是才第一次关注到家庭暴力的危机吗？ 今天早上，我参加了世界卫生组织论坛，会上政府官员们、非政府组织和个体民众们致力于解决妇女和女孩们的健康问题的工作方案。 明天，我将参加一个为妇女设立联合国发展基金的会议。会上将集中讨论本地的一个非常成功的计划，该计划是为那些工作努力的妇女们提供赊购，使她们能够改善自己的和家庭的生活。
