To China now. The heavy rainstorms that began on Monday have left 19 dead and 7 missing in eight provinces in southern China. This is the third round of devastating downpours to hit the country this month. Figures show over 550,000 people have been evacuated from their homes in Zhejiang, Anhui, Jiangxi, Hubei, Hunan, Sichuan and Guizhou provinces and in Chongqing municipality. Rescue teams have been sent to the disaster areas. In Guizhou province the rains have triggered floods that have so far hit 32 cities and counties, affecting at least 863,000 people since last Friday. In Zhejiang province, floods and landslides triggered by the heavy rain have destroyed infrastructure and toppled rural houses, causing at least 19,000 residents to evacuate.
