M:I have one on Monday,another on Tuesday and two on Friday,none on Wednesday and Thursday,I’m thankful for that．

M:I am calling to report an accident.

W:Could you give me some details, sir?

M:A truck hit a car on Highway 204.

W:Has anyone been badly hurt?

M:I’m not quite sure.The driver of the truck says he is OK.But the lady in the car might have broken her leg.

W:May I have your name, sir?

M:Daniel Smith.

W:OK, Mr.Smith.We’ll send an ambulance and a police car immediately.It’s 11:55 now, and they should be there by 12:05.Thanks.

W:Don’t you have any good news?

M:No.Yesterday I had to stay after school,because I was talking during my biology class.

W:You’d better keep quiet in class.

M:Sometimes I do.The day before yesterday,I was very quiet during my history class and I still had to stay after class.

W:I don’t understand.

M:Because I fell asleep during the class,but it wasn’t my fault.The lesson was very dull.

W:I advise you to take school more seriously.If you don’t pass your exam,you’ll have to drop out and work as a result.

M:I don’t think that it makes much difference.If I have a job,I have to do dull work every day,but if I’m in school,I must listen to dull teachers every day.

M:Well,you may have.I’ve been here once or twice,for a walk in this quiet park.Do you live near here?

W:Yes.I live in one of those flats over there.What about you?

M:Oh,I’m staying with a family down near the station.

W:Are you on holiday?

M:Well...er...I’m here to improve my English.I’m from Greece,you see.

W:I didn’t think you were English,but your English is very good.

M:Thank you very much.

W:It’s very close to your office,isn’t it?

M:Yes,it is.I always walk to work—even when it rains.

W:I usually take the bus.It takes so long!

M:How long does it take?

W:Oh,it takes about 45 minutes.

M:That’s a long time.Well,have some pizza,please!

W:(Taking a bite.) This is delicious! Do you bake all of your pizza?

M:Yes,I usually bake something on the weekend or holidays.

W:You are a wonderful cook!

M:Thank you.

W:I never cook at home.It is my husband Andy who usually does all the cooking.

M:Do you often go out to eat?

W:Yes,when he doesn’t have time to cook,we will go out to eat somewhere.

M:There are some wonderful restaurants in the city.

W:Too many! You can eat at a different restaurant every day.

The Old Man and the Sea is one of Hemingway’s most lasting works and may become one of the true classics of this generation.It played a great part in his winning the Pulitzer Prize in 1953 and the 1954 Nobel Prize in Literature and confirmed his power and presence in the literary world.Hemingway is also one of my favorite writers.Besides The Old Man and the Sea,I have read some of his other works,such as The Sun Also Rises,A Farewell to Arms and The Snow of Kilimanijaro.  But The Old Man and the Sea is the one that left the deepest impression on me.This novel mainly wrote about one old man alone in the sea who fishes.He caught one big fish.But he met a shark on the way home.The old man used all his skills to fight with the shark.At last,the fish he caught was eaten up by the shark,but he never gave up.This book shows to us that the confidence is just like the automobile motor,and is power which makes the person go forward.
