W:You mean the school?Yes,he does.He likes his teachers and classmates.

W:No,he walks.He likes walking.He meets some of his friends at the corner and they go together.

M:What does he do when it rains?

W:My husband takes him in the car.He passes the school on the way to the office.

M:Certainly.The idea is not to have a house full of different things.This is a complete home system.It will make people’s lives easier.

W:OK! So tell me how this house will make my life easier?

M:When you arrive at the front door, you won’t need a key.The door will open with a touch of your finger.You’ll be able to call your refrigerator when you’re at the grocery store and find out how much you need to buy.Isn’t it wonderful?

W:Can I call the washing machine as well?

M:Sure.But you won’t need to.The house comes with a robot.It is programmed to clean the house and do the washing.

W:What does it cost?

M:A million dollars.

W:A million dollars! It will be the 22nd century before I can afford to buy one!

Alice Walker makes her living by writing.And her poems,short stories and novels have won many prizes for her.She was born in Eatonton,Georgia.She went to public school there,and then went to college in Atlanta before coming to New York to attend another college,from which she graduated in 1966.For a time she lived in Jackson,Mississippi,with her lawyer husband and a small daughter.Once she met Langston Hughes,an American poet.She promised she would write a book for children.Though she knew nothing about writing at that time,the great poet didn’t scold her.He was kind and gave Alice Walker a lot of books.His kind help gave her lots of courage.So far,Alice Walker has written a lot of books and become famous.
