Irene has long gone but her aftermath lingers. In Vermont, roads are impassible due to flooding. Many states are also facing flooded roads and electricity is still out for millions along the East Coast.

Post-Irene disaster aid from Washington could be in short supply. The government's main disaster aid account has less than $800 million, but damage from the storm is expected to be in the billions. FEMA is now being forced to freeze rebuilding projects from earlier disasters.

Former NBA player Javaris Crittenton was in police custody after being arrested in Southern California. He was waiting to board a flight to Atlanta where his lawyer says he was headed to surrender in a murder case. The arrest was related to that case.

The Philadelphia Eagles have made Mike Vick one of the NFL's highest-paid players. A source says Vick has signed the deal worth $100 million over six years. Vick first signed with the Eagles in 2009 after spending 18 months in the federal prison on dogfighting charges.
