The violent clashes between riot police and protesters occurred Monday in the Iranian capital, Tehran, killing one person, a local news agency reported.

Thousands of people were called by opposition leaders to show their solidarity with the riots took place recently in Tunisia and Egypt.

For its part, U.S. Secretary of State, Hilary Clinton, expressed support for the demonstrators and asked the government of Iran to reform its political system.
Amnesty International criticized the Iranian authorities to unseal a demonstration without a permit in Tehran on Monday and arrested dozens of protesters, said that the aim of the crackdown is to prevent the work of activists and silence the opposition.

Hassiba Hadj Sahraoui Deputy Director, Middle East and North Africa at Amnesty International, Said the Iranians have the right to assemble peacefully to express their support for the people of Egypt and Tunisia."

"The authorities responsible for maintaining public security but this is not an excuse to ban the protests of those who chose to exercise this right and Resolution."

It was reported that protests were organized in other cities across Iran, including Isfahan, Shiraz and Kermanshah. And Amnesty International said that the demonstration comes on a wave of preventive detention, which included many political activists and others over the past few days.

正在伊朗访问的土耳其总统居尔呼吁所有中东政府都应该听从人民的召唤。“有时当政府不听从人民的呼吁时,人民就自己采取行动实现其诉求。”居尔在与伊朗总统内贾德共同出席一个记者招待会时这样说道。
