After a legal battle, the government seizes Elian from those relatives months later and the boy returns to Cuba.

1925. Nellie T. Ross succeeds her late husband as a governor in Wyoming, becoming the first female governor in the American history.

1998. Sonny Bono, pop star-turned-politician is killed after striking a tree while skiing in South Lake Tahoe California. He was 62.

2004. After 14 years of denials, Pete Rose publicly admits he bet on baseball while he was Manager of the Cincinnati Reds.
