On Wall Street, investors lose $74 billion on the stock exchange and the ticker ran four hours behind. Bread lines, worldwide depression and angry demonstrations for social revolution followed the Wall Street crash, which climaxed after a week of furious trading on Tuesday, October 29th, 1929. In October 1987, heavy Wall Street declines during several days of near panic trading reverberated through major stock exchanges around the world. But partly thanks to advanced computer technology, the downspin soon leveled off and the world did not know another stock market disaster like the one that happened 58 years earlier in 1929.
