BP says it hopes to siphon as much as half of the oil leaking into the Gulf of Mexico, and it's getting ready to shoot mud into a blown-out well later this week to try and stop at all. Meanwhile, the Obama administration is defending the government response to the Gulf Coast spill in hearings on Capitol Hill.

A Haitian court has convicted American missionary Laura Silsby of arranging to transport 33 children out of the country at the January's earthquake. But a judge sentenced her to amounted time served in jail. She's now free to leave the country.

A lawyer for the family of a seven-year-old girl killed by a police officer's bullet says video footage contradicts the police department's version of what happened during a weekend raid. Police say the officer's gun discharged during a struggle with the girl's grandmother. The attorney says the video shows at least one shot was fired outside the home.

A Lebanese immigrant is the new Miss U.S.A. Rima Fakih took home the crown in Las Vegas Sunday night.
