Hi, I'm Dr. Nina Naidu. I'm a board certified plastic surgeon practicing in New York City. Today we're going to be injecting Botox into Marasol, who's volunteered for this procedure.

What is Botox?

Botox is derived from botulinum toxin and some people get concerned that they have a toxin being injected into their skin. This is actually a highly purified derivative of botulinum toxin and it acts on the nerve endings to relax the muscles. The effects last for approximately 3 to 4 months and the results are seen in about 3 to 7 days.

The Botox Injection

As I'm injecting, I'm having Marasol wrinkle up her forehead so that I can see the exact areas where I want to inject. She's going to fell tiny pin pricks to the forehead. And these are the transverse folds on her forehead and the vertical lines between her eyebrows. These are just temporary sensations of pain and should resolve almost immediately.

I'm moving across the forehead to target the selective muscles that are creating the wrinkles that are bothering her.

Post Botox Procedure Consultation

Dr. N: Ok, so were now one week after your Botox injection. Did you have any problems at all afterwards?

M: No, no problems.

Dr. N Ok. And how soon did you start to notice results?

M: A day later.

Dr. N: Great. And as we can see here your forehead is really nice and smooth, and just try and give me uh, so you cant really move.

M: No, I can't

Dr. N: So you can't raise your eyebrows because we relaxed the muscles here, so that's going to prevent you from doing that. And try to wrinkle right here. Alright, great - so you can't really wrinkle right there.

M: No.

Dr. N: And you have two tiny, tiny residual little lines. Those are not from the muscle itself. What I would probably do if you wanted was to inject a little bit of filler just to fill those in. But the muscles itself is relaxed because you can't deepen those any further. The effects last for approximately 3 to 4 months and the results are seen in about 3 to 7 days.
