中国政府一直高度重视环境保护，上世纪80年代把保护环境确定为基本国策，90年代初把可持续发展确立为国家战略，进入新世纪，我们提出了要坚持以人为本，落实科学发展观，实现经济社会与环境、人与自然的协调发展。

我们要在发展中保护环境，目前已进行了一些积极探索：一是加强环境法制，建立一系列规章、标准组成的法律体系，同时不断严格环境执法。二是加大环境教育，鼓励公众参与和社会监督。通过上述措施，中国在经济快速增长的情况下，污染加剧的趋势得到初步遏制。

The environment should be protected in the process of development and active esplorations have been conducted: first, strengthening envoronmental legislation.
