Sketch actor Zhao Benshan is a household name in China. Last November, sprung the news that Zhao and his entire family have been green lit for Canadian citizenship, the news confirmed by Zhao via short message. Strangely -- or should we say comically -- enough, the story was denied by the comedian shortly after.

赵本山在中国家喻户晓。而去年央视却爆料赵本山全家已获得加拿大公民身份，赵本山本人后经短信证明了此事。奇怪的是——或许我们该说喜剧的是——这位搞笑艺人稍后又否认了此事。

The beauty: Zhang Ziyi

Regarded as one of the most recognizable Asian faces in Hollywood, Zhang Ziyi has been the proud face of the Chinese film industry, starring in films like "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" (2000), "House of Flying Daggers" (2004) and "Memoirs of a Geisha" (2005). As her popularity has grown, so has speculation about her nationality -- especially following her engagement to Israeli tycoon Vivi Nevo. In her interview with "Bazaar" magazine last year, Zhang firmly denied the speculation, saying, "I'm and will always be Chinese."

Model citizen: Hu Bing

Hu Bing, China's best-known male model, was rumored to have turned in his Chinese passport for a Thai one several years ago. The rumors began when a Taiwan newspaper reported that the Thai name on his passport is "Itthichailedt Thaweemrsomkit." In response to the gossip, Hu's agent briefly dismissed it as baseless.

作为中国最有名的男模，数年前胡兵曾被怀疑持有泰国护照。此事由台湾一家报纸爆料，称胡兵护照上的泰文名为“Itthichailedt Thaweemrsomkit”，后经胡兵经纪人证实此事纯属谣言。
