Hannah Montana: The Movie is the film adaptation of the American teen sitcom Hannah Montana. It stars Miley Cyrus as Miley Stewart with her alter-ego Hannah Montana. When her life spins out of control, her dad takes her back home to Tennessee. There, the plot thickens as a childhood friend comes onto the scene. At the box office, the movie grossed 17.4-million US dollars on opening day, and 34-million on its opening weekend.

No. 2: Monsters vs. Aliens

Monsters vs. Aliens is another computer-animated 3-D collaboration between DreamWorks Animation and Paramount Pictures. Movie fans will recall other successes like Kungfu Panda and Madagascar Two. Monsters vs. Aliens features the voices of Reese Witherspoon, Seth Rogen, Hugh Laurie, and Will Arnett. The fantastic story line follows a motley crew of Monsters enlisted to combat an alien robot and save the world. It pays tribute to many sci-fi movies of the 1950s and 60s, sometimes to hilarious effect.

No. 1: Seventeen Again

With a first-week box office figure close to 25-million dollars, Seventeen Again is leading the pack in North America. The comedy from New Line Cinema stars Zac Efron, Matthew Perry, Leslie Mann, and Thomas Lennon. Although the plot displays little imagination and innovation, the stars seem to have their own drawing power as viewers are swarming in. If the initial success is any guide, its popularity may last well into the summer.
