背景介绍：

Switch（《天机·富春山居图》）, a story of a top Chinese secret agent（特工） battling multinational mobsters（犯罪团伙成员） to recover a precious painting, is mocked as “the worst Chinese blockbuster（大片） ever”, but has continued to pull in movie-goers. Up to now, its box office takings（票房收入） amount to over 0.3 billion.
This seems to become a common phenomenon that bad movies with high investment boast higher box office takings, while some low-cost films of high quality are left without anybody to care for it. We don’t know when just being ridiculously bad has become a winning strategy.

Speaking as a huge movie fan, no words can describe my disappointment to these so-called blockbusters which start with gigantic（声势浩大的） and relentless（不停歇的） publicity surrounding the special effects（特效） and giant stars to get audiences hopes up, but only turn out to be stinkers（烂片）. A case in point is the recent film, Switch, not being a box-office failure, but a reputation defeat.
The way I see it, this film genre is supremely skilled at self-marketing and exploiting attention regarded as important and economic resources in social media era. Therefore, the more criticisms and disputes they get, the more attention will be paid on them, then the advertising target is beat.
Over the past decade, China, as the second largest movie market, has attracted movie makers worldwide to discover the formula for success in her film market. But China’s movies have been struggling to find its way into a winning strategy and it is apparent that star-studded（巨星云集的） martial-arts films（武侠片） cannot be the answer. We do not run short of money, investment, gorgeous stunts or the attractive actors, but when can we expect the ability to tell stories of our directors and scriptwriters?

It is embarrassing to find out the truth that bad movies with high investment enjoy higher box office, whereas high quality movies with low cost receive few attention. Switch is just an example in case. Though it faces piles of negative comments both from critics and the public, it poses few impact on the box office takings. As far as I am concerned, this unique phenomenon is appeared with reasons. From the spectator’s point of view, their curiosity should be blamed for the ridiculous consequence. Due to the fact that Switch has been criticized widely recently, people may wonder how bad it is. Thus, they tend to watch the movies by themselves as a popular saying goes, to see is to believe. The psychological factor is a reason to drive the high box office. What’s more, Switch is known for many famous actors and actresses. It is no doubt that stars have a strong influence because their fans would be attracted by those idols, with no regard to the movie itself. It is, actually, the stars who contribute to the favorable result. Therefore, these can explain why bad movies receive high returns.
