Landing in Auckland
What sruck me the moment I saw New Zealand from the airplane was how perfectly clean the air was. There was absolutely no somg. I saw vast areas of green and, as we flew lower, a clear blue ocean dotted with hundreds of white sails. No wonder Auckland is called "the City of Sails"!

Sky Tower and sky jumping
Soon after my arrival, I went to the observation deck of the 192-meter Sky Tower, the tallest structure in the Southern Hemisphere. In seconds, I was overlooking beautiful Auckland. In the distance, I could see some of the area's 48 dormant volcanoes. I also found myself gawking at the many "sky jumpers" who went bungee jumping off the tower!

Auckland Museum
I also visited the Auckland Museum. The building itself was a piece of artwork, and the Maori displays inside were most interesting.

Ferry ride
That evening, I took a ferry across the harbor for dinner. On the ride back, I admired the brightly lit skyline of Auckland. But most impressive were the numerous stars in the sky, more than I've seen in years!
