Some sports, like Judo, are included because they are popular in the country hosting the games. Japan introduced judo as an Olympic sport at the 1964 Tokyo games.Judo's name means "the gentle-way," but it is the only Olympic sport that lets athletes choke opponents or break their arms. Usually, throwing an opponent to the floor is enough to win.
