Sailors and marines from Southern California are helping with firefighting on Santa Catalina Island. A fast moving wildfire has burned at least 4,000 acres on the resort island of Los Angeles. Hundreds of residents and visitors have been evacuated.

The House has passed a war funding bill that appears doomed. The bill OKs money for Iraq and Afghanistan only through July. Senators are working at a compromise and are not likely to approve the House version. President Bush says he'll veto it.

A Colorado couple faces charges in connection with a 7-year-old boy who may have starved to death. The younger brother is now in a foster home as authorities investigate the older boy's passing. Officials are waiting for results of an autopsy in the boy who weighed about 30 pounds when he died.

Virginia Tech holds commencement exercises tonight among those receiving degrees. The 27 students who were killed by a mentally ill gunman last month. Memories of the shooting are everywhere amid the normal graduation festivities.
