Our correspondent in Tokyo Terrence Terashima has sent us exclusive footage of the quake when it shook Japan. It shows the fear and uncertainty people went through during those initial moments.

The footages starts with a traffic light shaking.

Pedestrians on the streets are startled feeling the tremor.

Back in the building, office floors were covered with documents and files.

People are running out of buildings. Some terrified, others discussed and hugged each other. Others didn't know what was happening and talked and laughed, not knowing the impending destruction hitting the nation.

This footage shows our correspondent Terrence Terashima during an interview, but it is disrupted by the sudden jolt.

Many people outside on the streets are wearing safety hats to protect them in case of falling debris.
