From the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, conservative broadcaster Glenn Beck told the tens of thousands of people gathered for his rally that the U.S. has too long wandered in darkness. Speaker, Sarah Palin, praised “patriots” in the audience for knowing “never to retreat”. The two champions of the tea party movement spoke from the very spot where Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his “I Have a Dream” speech 47 years ago.

Not far from the Lincoln Memorial gathering, civil rights leaders held a rival rally, marching more than 3 miles from a high school to the site of a planned Martin Luther King memorial near the Tidal Basin.

Paris Hilton was arrested on a Las Vegas trip Friday night on drug charges. Authorities say a police officer allegedly found a small amount of cocaine in Hilton’s purse.

A Venezuelan politician is holding an unusual raffle to raise campaign cash. The grand prize: breast implant. For a little under $6 a ticket, donors get the chance to win the pricey operation free of charge. Breast enlargement is widely popular in Venezuela.
