for the long haul意思是在漫长的过程中（一直坚持），haul是拖，拉的意思。
例：《新闻编辑室》里Charlie嘲笑Will教化大众的任务进行的怎么样，Will说:
"The progress is slow,but I'm in it for the long haul."进展是很缓慢，
但我打算打持久战。
