M:Where shall I put it,Miss?

W:Put it in the waste-paper basket,please.

M:But Tom and Bill put all their paper in the basket a few minutes ago.Now it’s full.

W:Then take the basket outside and empty it.

M:Yes,Miss.

W:Where did you empty the basket,Mike?

M:On the playground,Miss.

W:That’s not right! The dustbin is at the back of the school.Now pick up the paper and put it in the dustbin.

W:Hey,wake up,lazybones.The alarm clock is ringing.Don’t you hear?     

M:Five minutes more.Let me know when   you’re through with the bathroom.

W:You’re a real sound sleeper.You’ll   miss your breakfast again and have a fit all morning.

M:Stop scolding me,mum,I’ll be down in    a second.

W:Get up quickly and wash your face.

M:Oh! The God-damned water! Why didn’t you tell me it was so hot?

W:Don’t blame me if you’re too sleepy to see it steaming.

M:Where is the towel? I can’t find my towel.

W:It’s outside.I washed it last night.

M: (Sniffing) Phew ! Is that French coffee?

W:Pardon?

M:Is that French coffee you are drinking?

W:Yes,that’s right.Why? What’ s the matter?

M:I don’t understand why you drink French coffee.It makes a strong    smell.

W:I like it very much,I prefer it to English coffee.

M:Have you got a lot of it?

W:Yes.Why?

M:Well..,er...could I get some from you?

W:Get some from me? But...you don’t like French coffee!

M:No,I don’t,but my wife does and I can’t understand why.

M:You know,Sally,we’ve both been working too hard.We’ve got to get away for a while,even if it’s just for a few days.

W:What a good idea,Eric!That would be wonderful.Let me look at my schedule...I could take off a week from Thursday,but no sooner.

M:Let me look at my schedule too...Yes,that looks good.

W:I thought you had a basketball game every Thursday until the end of the month.

M:Oh,you’re right.I must have forgotten to write that down.How about the next Thursday after that?Basketball season’s over then.Do you know if you can get it off?

W:That’s Thursday and Friday,the third and fourth?I don’t care if I can—I will get off.We need the change.Where would you like to go?New York?

M:No,we don’t have enough time to go there,and it’s too expensive anyway.

W:And we want to relax,not run around all the time.I know!Do you remember that little hotel in Wilmington,Vermont,where we stayed years ago?That would be perfect.

M:Well,that was July,though.I wonder if they’re open in the winter.

W:Most likely,during skiing season.Uh...oh,I’d forgotten about skiing season.I don’t know if we could get a room.

M:I’ll call and find out.Do you remember the name?

W:It’s right on the tip of my tongue...I have it.The Strawberry River Inn.

Christa McAuliffe was born in 1948 and she was an astronaut almost by accident.In 1984,NASA decided  to find a teacher who could accompany astronauts into space.They hoped that she would be able to     communicate with students from space.Christa was a secondary school teacher in history and social studies and she was selected from over 11,000 applicants to go on flight STS-51-L.Thousands of students in schools and universities all around the country were looking forward to communicating with Christa in space.Millions of people were watching her flight with great interest.

But Judy was very different.She was born in 1949 and studied engineering at university and went on to  obtain a Ph.D in 1977.She was a member of the first group of women selected for astronaut training in  1978,and in 1984,she became the second woman into space.During that flight,she helped to launch three new satellites and she carried out a program of research.She was a professional astronaut.
