Evacuations are on hold in one Louisiana town after officials said the river that's threatening Butte LaRose might not get as high as feared. Meanwhile, residents of Vicksburg, Mississippi are watching floodwaters slowly recede.

Businessman Herman Cain has joined the growing field of Republicans who want to be president. He made the announcement at a rally in Atlanta and was greeted by cheers of “herman.”

Pope Benedict has made the first papal call to outer space. He blessed the 12 astronauts now orbiting the globe. He offered special thoughts to astronaut Mark Kelly and his wife Gabrielle Giffords.
