China’s Li Na hit the court for round two play on Thursday as the 2011 champ at Roland Garros squared off against American Bethanie Mattek-Sands. As a rainy week of weather continued in Paris, this one was delayed a few times due to the wet stuff. China’s best though, hoping her hopes of a second title wouldn’t be washed away.

The 31-year-old Li got off to a strong beginning, breaking twice to lead 4-love early in the first set.

But Mattek-Sands regrouped quickly and won the next five games to make it 5-4. Li, though, would retake control winning the next three games to take the first set 7-5.

The first of three rain delays hit the match in set two as Li saw her game desert her.

Mattek-Sands would then take over, ripping off seven straight games at one point to take set two 6-3 and the third 6-2 to knock out Li Na.

Li’s departure, her worst result at Roland Garros since her debut in 2006 as she washes out early
