Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write an essay on online libraries. You can start your essay with the sentence "Online libraries are becoming increasingly popular". You should write at least 120 words  but no more than 180 words.

The use of online library is becoming increasingly popular. Many public and private libraries have established online websites, offering their sizable collections digitally to readers across the world. In my opinion, online libraries bring great benefits to ordinary people.

The reasons that online libraries are beneficial are as follows. For one thing, with the development of internet technology, it is easier than before to gain access to online content on computers and phones. Consequently, this convenience allows people to read anywhere at any time, solidifying an increasing positive influence of online libraries. For another, online libraries may offer a greater variety of content, rather than being limited to the traditional print materials like their offline counterparts. People can listen to audio books, watch videos, and even check 3D models of valuable ancient book pages on the internet, the last of which have already proved to be a highlight of online library services.

Online libraries have brought knowledge and fun to many people, and we should surely make use of this contemporary invention to better ourselves. (177 words)

The use of online library is becoming increasingly popular. Why? Admittedly, in the contemporary society, an increasing number of people, with the help of online library, find it convenient to read so many e-books wherever and whenever they are.

On the one hand, online library can bring users greater efficiency and help them save more time and energy. For instance, a host of people live in remote areas where there is no library, and it is the assistance of online library that allows them to get access to various e-books. On the other hand, there are certain problems. For example, staring at the screen for hours without rest may cause the users’ eyesight to become worse. Besides, those who read e-books tend to be distracted by other apps in their cell phones from time to time.

Personally, I prefer reading paper books to e-books of online library. Paper books can bring me joy of reading, arouse my passion for learning and help me acquire knowledge more effectively. Anyway, I also read e-books when paper ones are not available. (178 words)

Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write an essay on online dictionaries. You can start your essay with the sentence "Online dictionaries are becoming increasingly popular". You should write at least 120 words but no more than 180 words.

The use of online dictionaries is becoming increasingly popular. Technological advancements have enabled dictionaries to be distributed in much more varied ways, from dedicated electronic devices to mobile apps ready for download. In my opinion, online dictionaries can be listed as one of the best inventions of our age.

Online dictionaries attract users mainly in two ways. First, they are easier to access than paper dictionaries. Apparently, carrying a bulky print dictionary in the bag is not an extremely attractive choice, not to mention the time-consuming turning of pages just to look up for a single word. In contrast, online dictionaries offer a much lighter and quicker way of finding words. Second, online dictionaries offer richer content. In addition to typical definitions, collocations and examples, online dictionaries allow users to learn the usage of words by checking images, listening to pronunciations and even comparing words with similar meanings, all of which are limited, if not impossible, in print dictionaries.

Online dictionaries greatly simplify the way people learn a language. It is advisable that we all utilize such a wonderful tool.

The use of online dictionary is becoming increasingly popular. Why? Admittedly, in the contemporary society, an increasing number of language learners, with the help of online dictionaries, find it convenient to look up new words wherever and whenever they are.

On the one hand, online dictionaries can bring users greater efficiency and help them save more time and energy. To be specific, no one can always take a paper dictionary, but with the assistance of online dictionaries in a smartphone, it will be nearly impossible for people to be troubled by new words. On the other hand, it is the convenience of online dictionaries that cause some language learners to lose motivation for memorizing new words. Finally, they may fail to get a good command of any foreign language.

I, as a college student, deem that it is of great necessity for young people to use online dictionaries in a rational way. We should bear in mind that any dictionary is merely a tool. Provided that one intends to master a foreign language, it is advisable to practice each day. (180 words)

Directions:For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write an essay on the use of PowerPoint (PPT) in class. You can start your essay with the sentence "The use of PowerPoint is becoming increasingly popular in class". You should write at least 120 words but no more than 180 words.

The use of PowerPoint slideshows, commonly known as PPT, is becoming increasingly popular in class. An increasing number of teachers are employing this new form of teaching material to replace traditional chalk and blackboard. In my opinion, PowerPoint slideshows are providing benefits for both teachers and students.

For teachers, there are mainly two benefits. First, teachers may free themselves from the health damage of using chalks, which may hurt fingers and the respiratory system in a slow but severe way. Second, compared with blackboard writing, PowerPoint slides are more flexible in that images, audios and videos can be inserted, greatly improving the teaching methods.

For students, the advantages are also mainly shown in two ways. For one thing, slides combining different media forms together are commonly regarded as being more interesting than blackboard writing, which helps to keep students focused. For another, with various methods of acquiring knowledge from slides, students can achieve a better understanding of what is being taught to them.

In conclusion, PowerPoint presentations are a welcome addition to modern classrooms and deserve a more widespread use.

The use of Power Point is becoming increasingly popular in class. Why? Admittedly, in many schools, an increasing number of teachers, with the help of PPT, find it convenient to present what they intend to teach.

As a matter of fact, without PPT, teachers do have a variety of difficulties in imparting knowledge or skills to students. For instance, years ago, with no PPT, a teacher had no choice but write everything on the blackboard with chalks. Now, PPT can bring a teacher great convenience and help him enhance the efficiency in teaching since he can prepare in advance and show on the PPT. However, I heard that some young people still find it boring to listen to a teacher’s course because he just reads what is shown on the PPT. To conclude, it is PPT that enables a teacher’s course to be interesting, but it is also PPT that may cause his class not to be active when he depends heavily on it.

As a college student, I deem that it is of great necessity for teachers or anyone else to use PPT in a rational way. We should bear in mind that PPT is merely a tool.(199 words)

If you travel to Beijing, there are two things that you must do; one is to climb the Great Wall, and the other is to eat Peking Duck. The renowned Peking Duck was once confined to the imperial palace, whereas now it is served at hundreds of restaurants in Beijing.

The origin of the Peking Duck dates back to the Ming Dynasty, about 600 years ago. Cooks selected from all over China travelled to the capital to cook for the Emperor. Cooking in the imperial palace was taken as an utmost honor as only the outstanding chefs could get the position. In fact, it was these palace chefs who had the skills for cooking Peking Duck crafted to perfection.

Moutai, the most famous brand of baijiu in China, was chosen as the liquor for the state banquet before the founding of the People’s Republic of China.

It’s said that 4000 years ago, the villagers along the Chishui River had already started making Moutai. During the Western Han Dynasty, people in that area had produced Moutai of good quality and offered it to the emperor as a tribute. Ever since the Tang Dynasty, this local liquor had been shipped overseas via the Maritime Silk Road.

The liquor tastes soft and has a special fragrance. People can relieve fatigue and calm down by drinking it moderately. Thus, it is favoured by consumers both at home and abroad.
