This is AP News Minute.

U.S. officials say they will take a "hard look" at proposal for Syria to surrender its chemical weapons to international control to avoid a military strike. But the administration expressed "serious skepticism" about Syrian President Assad's intentions. Syria has consistently refused to destroy its chemical weapons in the past.

A new AP poll indicates that most Americans oppose the military strike on Syria despite a weeks-long White House campaign for action. 61% of Americans surveyed say they want Congress to vote against authorizing military strikes. Just 26% are in favor.

Officials in Chile now say they the Uruguayan man who survived after being lost in the Andes for 4 months was fleeing from the law. Raul Gomez was wanted on child sex abuse charges. He was rescued on Sunday after surviving for 4 months by eating rats and owls.

And a long lost Van Gogh painting has been discovered in a Norwegian attic. The painting was initially rejected by researchers because it was unsigned. But after 2 years of investigations, experts say they are certain it was painted by the Dutch artist.
