A wildfire in southern California’s San Jacinto Mountains has grown to nearly 30 square miles. But firefighters say they're making progress. The blaze is almost half contained and several evacuation orders have now been lifted. The fire has destroyed 26 homes. 
 
Authorities confirm four people were killed when a small plane crashed into two homes in East Haven, Connecticut Friday. The pilot is believed to be a former Microsoft executive who was taking his son on a tour of East Coast colleges. Two children inside one of the houses also died. 
 
In Ireland, 56 police officers have been wounded in clashes between protestant militants and Irish Republican Army supporters. The violence broke out during a parade in downtown Belfast
 
President Obama is assuring military families the administration is making progress on cutting the backlog of wounded veterans' disability claims. The president spoke at the disabled American veterans’ convention in Florida before heading to Martha’s Vineyard for a family vacation.
