The White House says it would be inappropriate for President Obama to get involved in the George Zimmerman shooting case. The Justice Department has said it's considering whether prosecutors should file federal civil rights charges now that Zimmerman has been acquitted in the state case.
 
Protests are continuing around the country after the verdict in the death of Trayvon Martin. In Birmingham Alabama, demonstrators gathered in support of the slain teenager. In New York, veteran lawmakers called for improved dialogue on race relations in the U.S.
 
The United States' No. 2 diplomat is urging Egypt’s military and new interim leadership to ensure an inclusive transition to democracy. In Cairo, Deputy Secretary of State William Burns dismisses accusations that Washington backs any one side in the deeply polarized country, though he has not yet met with the Muslim Brotherhood.
 
And meet the lettuce bot. It is still in development. But the robot can already thin a field in the time it takes about 20 workers to do job by hand. The machine could be a boon to farmers facing a dwindling labor force.
