跟外国人接触多了，就发现英语中有很多“表里不一”的表达。比如最简单的，restroom是洗手间，而不是字面“休息室”的意思。那我们来一起看一下还有哪些容易误会的口语表达吧！
1. step on it
快一点，加快速度
Step on it？你要踩什么？Oh, no.并不是，我们着急的时候会用step on it 来表明想快一点。这是因为step on it 就是踩油门的意思，表示加速，就是快一点啦。例如：
If we don't step on it, we will be late.
如果不快一点的话，我们就要迟到了
We are really running late now, Larry. We better step on it!
我们真的要迟到了拉瑞，快点开啊！
2. under the table
见不得人的交易
这个习惯用语可不仅仅是“在桌子下面”哦。Under the table在桌子下面进行的交易，也就是不能见人的，而且往往是非法的。如果我们想表达某件事情通过不光彩的交易成功了，就可以用under the table。例如：
I've been applying a
liquor license for a year, but this guy gets one in two months. I'm sure he must have paid the official under the table.
我申请卖酒许可已经一年了，但这个人两个月就拿到了。他肯定私下贿赂当官的了。
3. turn into a pumpkin
到时间睡觉了
“变成南瓜”？当然不是。这是一个幽默的说法，在日常对话中常用来暗示时间太晚了，该回家睡觉了。例如：
I really had a wonderful time tonight but it's time for me to turn into a pumpkin.
我们今天晚上确实玩得很开心，但是我该回家了。
另外，这个表达后面还可以接具体时间来说明某人通常几点睡觉。
I usually turns into a pumpkin at 11p.m., so don't call me after that.
我通常十一点睡觉，所以这之后不要给我打电话。
4. over the moon
欣喜万分
可不是“登月”哦。这个表达来自于一首儿歌，意思是兴高采烈，欣喜若狂，遇到任何高兴的事都可用over the moon来表达兴奋的心情。例如：
She is over the moon about her promotion.
她升职了，可把她高兴坏了。
Over the moon也常用在体育赛事中，例如赢得比赛之后的欣喜若狂：
The whole team is over the moon at winning the competition.
全队因赢得这场比赛而欢呼雀跃。
5. have a fit
发脾气，暴怒
看到fit是不是就以为跟试穿有关呢？这个常用语可跟“试穿”相去甚远。请看下面这个对话：
A：Larry，what were you thinking of! Why didn’t you pull over out there?
B：Sorry, I missed the turn. We can turn around and go back. There's no need to have a fit.
A：拉瑞，你想什么呢！为什么不在那停车？
B：不好意思啊，我忘记转弯了。我们可以倒回去，没必要发脾气吧。
所以，have a fit 就是发脾气，大发雷霆的意思，也可以加一些形容词或者名词使用，例如：
Your teacher are going to have a
hissy fit when he read it.
你老师读了之后肯定会生气的。
He had a shit fit to hear about it.
他听到此事，勃然大怒。
6. written in the stars
无法改变，命中注定的
我们应该知道那部出名的电影The Fault in Our Stars（《星运里的错》），在英美文化中，星星象征梦想与希望，同时，星星也常和“古老、永恒”等概念联系在一起，满天的繁星在我们看来总是遥不可及，因此written in the stars 用来指冥冥之中早已注定的、无法改变的事，通常形容爱情。例如：
It’s all written in the stars that we are left alone in this bus.
能单独乘坐同一辆车真是缘分啊。
Fate has brought them together –it is all written in the stars.
是命运将他们安排在了一起，一切都是命中注定。
7. a long shot
机会不大
字面意思是“距离远的射击”，这个表达起源于打枪，枪支刚刚出现时，准性很差，距离稍微远一点就打不中目标。现在英语口语中一般用来表达渺小的机会，意思就是实现此事的机会不大。例如：
Well, it is a long shot, but I have to try it.
恩，估计成功的可能性很小，但是我必须试一试。
It's a long shot for you to win the election this time.
这次你胜选的可能性不太大。
8. You don’t know the half of it.
事情要复杂得多
“你不知道它的一半”？其实这句话表达的是：你连事实的一半都不知道。口语中用这句话来表示事情远比你所想的要糟糕得多、困难得多或复杂得多。例如：
You think that’s not bad? You don’t know the half of it.
你认为那不好吗？其实比你想的糟糕的多。
