Lord Adonis to reveal high speed rail plans

阿多尼斯勋爵透露英国高铁计划


Details of a possible multi-billion pound high-speed rail line, featuring 250mph trains, will be announced later.A Government White Paper will outline the route and cost of a high-speed rail (HSR) line running from London to Birmingham.

此高铁将贯穿伦敦和伯明翰，时速可达250英里，约耗资数十亿英镑。详情将会在稍后公布。英国政府将出台白皮书对这条高铁的路线和架设成本做出规划。


Transport Secretary Lord Adonis will publish the Government's views on how HSR can be extended north of Birmingham into north England and Scotland.

He is expected to announce that 1,100 seater HSR trains will arrive and depart from a new London station, with the train route expected to pass through the picturesque Chiltern Hills to Birmingham.

预计伦敦将会为这条高铁建立一个新车站。还有就是，这条高铁可能会经过风景秀丽的奇尔特恩丘陵，然后进入伯明翰。


If the White Paper is passed through the Houses of Parliament, work will not start until 2017 at the earliest. The London to Birmingham line is unlikely to open before the end of 2025.

如果议会通过白皮书，这项工程最早也要2017年开始动工。伦敦到伯明翰航线不大会在2025年之前开放。


Initially there would be 14 trains on the line per hour, and that could be raised to 18 per hour if the northern section is completed too.

All three major parties are committed in principle to the idea of HSR but the Conservatives turned down an offer to view the Government plans before Thursday's announcement.
