The clock is ticking down to the annual Spring Festival Gala. The program was once again fine-tuned and adjusted for the fourth, and penultimate rehearsal on Tuesday afternoon. At a press conference in the morning, director Jin Yue guaranteed that this year's gala is original and varied.

Cross talk and short sketches regularly trigger the most laughs every year. This part of the program has risen to a total of ten performances this year. Most of the plays make use of trendy Internet topics and deal with down-to-earth issues. The inspiration comes from the knowledge that comedy sketches succeed not only from a collection of antics and humor, but also through credibility.

Huang Hong, actor, said, "When we go too far, people would find it empty and question the authenticity."

Gong Hanlin, actor, said, "Good skits are based on life. The fact it's credible makes it intriguing."

Director Jin Yue says the gala should offer not only a feast to the senses, but something for the audience after the laughter.

Jin Yue, director of the Gala, said, "The contents matters the most. One could be creative in its approach, but you have to be down-to-earth in choosing the subject matter. We had about several dozens short sketches and cross-talks at the start of the preparation. We kept ten of them after serious consideration. "

Major moments of the past year are reflected in the opulent gala. The Chinese people were among the first in 2009 to emerge from the economic downturn, and the grand national celebrations of the 60th anniversary of the founding of New China have brought cohesion and confidence. The 16 women pilots who flied the trainer aircraft during the anniversary parade appeared on stage. Also sending new year blessings are the five national moral models of last year.

The gala will mark the comeback of pop singer Faye Wong, who is expected to make her first appearance at the last rehearsal on Thursday afternoon. And the pop trio Little Tigers deliver a nostalgic triple-bill from the 80s.

Nicky Wu, singer of "Little Tigers", said, "The Spring Festival gala is for all Chinese people to enjoy on New Year's Eve. We are happy to share and communicate with people from home and abroad."

And to prolong the joyful atmosphere, director Jin Yue says this year's gala has a fifth segment after the tolling of the bell at 12'clock. The variety of singing and dancing is expected to further boost audience ratings and disperse late night fatigue.
