President Barack Obama says he is confident the American people will support the path he chooses in Afghanistan once he explains it. That opportunity is expected to come soon in a national address. Obama says he wants to finish the job, destroying terrorist networks in the region.

Authorities say a census worker found hanging from a tree in Kentucky with the word “Fed” on his chest committed suicide and staged his death to look like a homicide. Police said Bill Sparkman acted alone as he had recently taken out two life insurance policies.

The first state dinner in the Obama White House, hosting India. At least 320 guests are expected, dining on a largely vegetarian meal of red lentil soup, potato and eggplant salad, green curry prawns.
